Agfa introduced human-centric technology for workforce pressures

Agfa Radiology showcased developments that aim to turn technology innovations into practical clinical tools. Under the banner ‘See through to the future’, the spotlight was on helping overstretched radiology staff flag critical pathologies earlier in the patient pathway.

To ease mounting workforce pressures, Agfa Radiology highlighted SmartXR, which offers radiographers intelligent, predictive workflow assistance, and ScanXR for early pathology detection. Agfa also featured Musica Xpert, the latest evolution of Musica image processing, which combines advanced mathematical models with AI and is said to deliver exceptional image quality tailored to radiologist preferences.

Another highlight was the first presentation of real-world cases using DensityScan, powered by IBEX Bone Health. Embedded directly into the Musica Workstation, DensityScan turns routine wrist and forearm x-rays into screening tools for osteoporosis.

Data from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust demonstrates how this software identifies at-risk patients. In one case, a 66-year-old woman with wrist and thumb pain showed a T-score of -3.3 at the distal third radius. She was referred for a DXA scan that revealed she was at risk of hip and other osteoporotic fractures, which enabled her to be treated before one could occur. “By helping healthcare providers identify people at risk for osteoporosis during routine x-ray imaging, DensityScan supports earlier diagnosis and timely treatment,” explained sales leader Europe north Joshua Akin-George.
