Imaging manager Mandy Howells and staff at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital in Leamington Spa have welcomed a state-of-the-art CT scanner from GE Healthcare, which is expected to give a significant boost for patient care.

The GE Optima 660 SE scanner is a 128+ slice scanner that delivers high resolution and low radiation dose studies.  Prior to its arrival the hospital used the services of a mobile CT scanner which was based in its car park two days a week.

Dr Mike Hughes said: “The arrival of the scanner is a major boost for patient care.  It is top-of-the-range equipment which has low dose facilities.  There is also a very quick turnaround on appointments and reports can be processed more quickly.  It means patients don’t have to worry about going outside in the rain to use a mobile scanner.

“Soon we are hoping to provide a cardiac CT service which will be the first one in the local area.”
