The AXREM executive committee and Future Leaders Council met in London in December to present a cheque for more than £3,500 to Alzheimer’s Research UK regional fund-raising officer Lucy Bedford, who has worked with AXREM throughout 2024. This was part of a new initiative by AXREM to support a charity over the year, making a donation from the association and hosting fund-raising activities.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is working to revolutionise the way dementia is treated, diagnosed and prevented. Bedford said: “We are immensely grateful for AXREM’s incredible fund-raising efforts over the past year. With one in two of us affected by dementia, either by developing it ourselves or caring for someone with the condition, this is a cause that resonates deeply with many of its employees. Their dedication is reflected in the remarkable amount they have raised, and these funds will help us continue our vital dementia research. We are grateful for their commitment to making a difference.”
The funds included a cash donation from AXREM, money collected from attendees at the association’s happy hour drinks reception at UKIO in June, and funds raised by AXREM patient monitoring special focus group convenor and Mindray patient monitoring and life support marketing manager UKI David Britton, who signed up to run the Great North Run Half Marathon and raised more than £700.
AXREM ceo Sally Edgington commented: “We had a great first year of fund-raising and have worked closely with Alzheimer’s Research UK throughout 2024, not only raising money but also raising the profile of the charity.
“This initiative has also brought our community together to raise money and I am looking forward to announcing the AXREM 2025 charity of the year early in the new year and seeing if we can exceed this year’s amount.”
