Barnsley learns how to live more healthily

Barnsley Council Welfare Rights Service’s Julie Watson and Amy Booth with Hartlepoole United manager Mick Wadsworth and cancer information manager Katie Hopkins.

 

Healthwise is Barnsley’s own Cancer Information Mobile Unit and, in January, it celebrated a year of being out and about in Barnsley.

 

Over the last year, more than 4,000 people have visited the information unit on its many trips to supermarkets, town centres and businesses in the area.  The unit has also visited the police, fitness centres and local voluntary support groups.

 

Cancer information manager Katie Hopkins said: “No other single health trust in the UK has this type of service.  It is funded by NHS Barnsley specifically for local people.  This service is from Barnsley, for Barnsley people.”
