This review of the ebook A Guide to Musculoskeletal Radiology was undertaken with a PDF version.

The ebook begins by providing a brief introduction to interpreting a radiograph and the concepts associated with radiographic evaluation. This is followed by sections covering MSK trauma and orthopaedics, and there are shorter sections on infections, metabolic and endocrine disorders and surgical procedures to close out the book. Each section contains subsections that provide brief descriptive details of radiographic appearances relative to each of the topics, often only lasting one or two paragraphs.

Critical features to be examined when assessing for presence of pathology are highlighted by bullet point lists, where necessary, which clearly identify aspects for the reader to include in their systematic approach when interpreting radiographs, and I think this clarity provides really useful guidance for those learning to construct a report.

There are many radiographic examples of pathology presented throughout the book, but there are no image annotations that illustrate to the inexperienced reader correlation with the descriptions included in the text. Some of the radiographic images are of poor quality, originating from scanned radiograph films and some are presented in the incorrect orientation or with suboptimal technical aspects. Some of the photographs depicting patient positioning in the introductory section are also suboptimal, in terms of promoting best practices.

This ebook is likely aimed at the level of trainee radiologists and trainee reporting radiographers, or radiographers with a keen interest in MSK image interpretation. In summary, it provides an easy to digest and quick reference for any trainee wanting to develop their musculoskeletal radiographic interpretation skills and would likely provide a useful resource in the electronic library of any reporting room.
