The BMUS 55th Annual Scientific Meeting, Ultrasound 2024 is coming to Coventry from 10th to 12th December 2024. This year’s conference promises to be a must attend event for medical ultrasound professionals, with a packed program of keynote lectures, proffered talks and posters, practical workshops, and our fantastic technical exhibition.
Keynote speakers
The keynote lecture for the Donald MacVicar Brown Award will be given by Dr Colin Deane, a consultant clinical scientist, author, former president of BMUS and honorary senior lecturer at King’s College London. His talk titled Let it Flow!, will take place at the end of the first day of the conference.
Program highlights
The conference program covers a variety of the major clinical applications of medical ultrasound, as well as some less common ones. Here are just a few of the highlights:
- Day 1: Plenary 1 focuses on general medicine, including sessions with a bowel, renal and cancer diagnosis focus. Plenary 2 focuses on a morning of head and neck with an extended talk from the esteemed Alexander Loizides and an afternoon of professional issues. Plenary 3 focusses on physics, from generalist to expert lectures. This year the student session has been rebranded to ‘student, trainee and early careers’. The day will end with the prestigious DMB Lecture followed by our welcome drinks reception.
- Day 2: Plenary 1 will see 4 sessions focusing on early pregnancy and gynaecology; Plenary 2 will include 4 comprehensive MSK sessions. Plenary 3 will see two vascular sessions. There will be two POCUS sessions and 2 ThUNDDAR sessions. This year day 2 will see the debut of an interactive breaking bad news practical, as well a liver doppler hands-on, a POCUS hands-on, an interventional workshop alongside the highly competitive BMUS Young Investigators session.
- Day 3: obstetrics will fill Plenary 1 and plenary two will be filled with professional issues, with a talk from Alison Deslandes. Why not get involved in a round table discussion? Plenary 3 will see a mixed bag. There will be the launching of a wellbeing session run by none other than SoRs own wonderful Gill Harrison. There will be a first appearance breast session. In the spirit in focussing on wellbeing there will be a yoga for professionals session. The sought-after veterinary session will see its return and there will be an endometriosis simulation practical. The day will finish with the BMUS big fat quiz of the year and hopefully some love from some furry friends.
Practical workshops
We have three full days of practical sessions.
- Day 1: kicks off with two sessions on MSK – one with an upper limb focus and the other with a lower limb focus.
- Day 2: four practical sessions starting with an interventional workshop covering the basic principles of FNA, core biopsies and drainages, a breaking bad news interactive role play workshop, a liver Doppler workshop and a hands on masterclass in PoCUS.
- Day 3: there will be a simulation based practical for diagnosing endometriosis, featuring a talk from Alison Deslandes, with our passionate experts and a seated/standing yoga session.
Technical exhibition
On top of all that, there is the ever-popular technical exhibition, where you can wander through the stands, chat with our friendly, knowledgeable industry colleagues, and try out all the latest equipment. This year we have got Canon Medical Systems, GE HealthCare and MIS Healthcare as the gold sponsors of the meeting. I am sure you would all agree the exhibition makes the meeting and we are grateful for our industry partners continued support.
Winter ball
The conference will have its Annual Winter Ball and Awards Ceremony on the Wednesday evening. This is a fantastic opportunity to let your hair down and have some fun with your friends and colleagues.
Registration for the conference is now open. To register, please visit the BMUS website.
We look forward to seeing you in Coventry!
