Christie staff raise funds for proton beam research

The team from The Christie, Seddon and Arup tackle Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Christie staff members were on top of the world after conquering one of the world’s highest mountains and raising funds for research. Sporting events officer for The Christie charity Amy Blackburn and project managers Phil Turner and James Weightman, took on the challenge of climbing 5,895 metre high Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money for proton beam therapy research at Manchester’s specialist cancer hospital.
They joined a team from partner organisation Seddon, which has named The Christie as its charity of choice for 2017-19. This was one of many national fundraising initiatives being undertaken in its support. Representatives from engineering firm Arup, which is working on the UK’s first high energy proton beam therapy centre under construction at The Christie, also joined the trek. More than £20,000 was raised.
