Across the NHS, mobile MRI and CT units are reaching community sites, screening programmes and underserved populations that fixed hospital infrastructure could not. However, when the trailer parks at a community site 40 miles from the host trust, connects to a local network and begins acquiring studies, Rosenfield Health asks where does that data go? “How does it get there? And how does anyone know it has arrived?” it continues. “Images can sit on local storage waiting for manual transfer or worklists fall out of sync because the RIS at the host trust does not know the trailer has moved. Patient demographics may be re-entered by hand because there is no live connection to the modality worklist.” Studies arrive anonymised when they should not be or identified when they should not be, the company suggests.

Rosenfield Health offers TriX, a smart, rule-based DICOM routing engine that automates the movement of imaging studies across sites, systems and mobile units. It supports cross-site routing, mobile screening deployments and anonymisation in transit within a secure, vendor-neutral architecture built for both cloud-based PACS solutions and on-premise PACS.

It also requires a complete audit trail and a VPN-secured transfer so that patient data moving between a trailer in a car park and a trust PACS meets the same standards as data moving within a hospital building.

“Mobile screening programmes for lung cancer, breast cancer and cardiac disease are expanding. Every one of these programmes creates this data routing challenge, at scale, repeatedly,” Rosenfield adds. “The question is not whether imaging networks will face it. The question is whether they are deploying the right infrastructure before they commission the next trailer, or discovering they need it after the first study goes missing.”
