Community hospital’s C-arm eases pressure on Addenbrooke’s

News

Pictured following the recent handover of a Hologic Fluoroscan Insight FD mini C-arm x-ray system supplied by Vertec Scientific to Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely, are consultant surgeon Mr Phil Johnston, Vertec product specialist Keith Lakin, health care assistant Sandra Brunning, unit leader Helen Watterson, staff nurse Gill Evans and consultant anaesthetist Dr Hemantha Alawattagamma.

Addenbrooke’s Hospital day surgery unit, part of the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, installed the Fluoroscan at the Princess of Wales to facilitate extremity surgery so patients can take advantage of the convenience of a community hospital knowing their treatment outcomes reach the same standards as Addenbrooke’s itself.

Mr Johnston said: “The Fluoroscan has enabled the team to develop hand and wrist trauma surgery at the Ely day surgery unit, easing the pressure on inpatient theatres in Addenbrooke’s. The image quality is excellent and the machine is very easy to use.”
