Cram welcomes MRI system to North Tees Hospital

Medical director David Emerton, consultant cardiologist Nic Child, Alliance Medical corporate services director Pete Winchester, clinical director Matthew Trewhella, chairman Paul Garvin and Steve Cram CBE.
Former Olympic medallist and world champion middle distance runner Steve Cram CBE was on hand to help Alliance Medical and the University Hospital of North Tees to launch a state-of-the-art MRI scanner.
The Siemens 3.0T Magnetom Skyra MRI scanner replaces an existing 1.5T MRI scanner as part of a £1.6m investment by North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Alliance Medical.
Trust clinical director for radiology Dr Matthew Trewhella said: “We are delighted to have Steve join us to officially open our new MRI scanner. This equipment will mean that patients can be seen more quickly and the hospital can provide a full complement of MRI imaging to ensure the best levels of diagnosis and treatments for our patients. The ability to perform cardiac examinations is particularly beneficial and will allow more patients across Teesside to access the scans they need locally.”
