Dr Jackson receives BIR service medal

Dr Simon Jackson has been awarded the Distinguished Service Medal by outgoing British Institute of Radiology (BIR) president Professor Stephen Keevil, as a mark of his special contributions to the BIR. The medal was presented at the inauguration event of new president Dr Nicholas Screaton.

Dr Jackson recently retired as vice president for education. He is also the current editor-in-chief (medical) of The British Journal of Radiology, a position he has held for eight years and has served as both an associate and senior editor during the 14 years he has been on the journal’s editorial board.

“For me, it has been an absolute privilege to be actively involved with the BIR over many years and I am immensely honoured to receive this medal,” Dr Jackson said. “I thank the BIR for the opportunity to help develop our educational and publishing content, which reflects our vision and commitment to enhance multi- professional excellence.”

Professor Keevil added: “I was delighted to present the medal to Dr Simon Jackson this year. Simon became vice president for education in 2020 and supported the institute’s educational programme through the COVID-19 pandemic and its immediate aftermath, staying on for another year to provide continuity in a period of significant change. He has also been medical editor-in-chief of the BJR for the past eight years. He is a very deserving recipient of the medal.”
