Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s first patient for the Verity CT scanner Amira Badani-Khan is pictured with paediatric Rebecca Ward, consultant radiologist Amaka Offiah, paediatric radiographer Elzene Kruger and Xograph Healthcare’s Simon Pike.
Early this year, Sheffield Children’s Hospital received a Planmed Verity extremity CT scanner that is aiding diagnosis of fracture and bone/joint abnormalities.
Three-year-old Amira Badani-Khan from Sheffield was the first patient to be scanned with the system because the consultant wanted to view her foot in greater detail, while the low radiation dose made it an attractive alternative to the 64-slice CT scanner.
Paediatric forensic radiographer Elzene Kruger said: “The quality of the images is fantastic and will really benefit patients, for example we are now able to get a detailed image of scaphoid fractures that are difficult to diagnose by x-ray.”
