Fatima Whitbread welcomes Brentwood’s MRI scanner

At Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital helping to launch a new MRI scanner are Alliance Medical business development director David Loasby, unit manager Sarah Warner, Fatima Whitbread, patient Karen Lapslie and hospital director Richard Bentley.
Former Olympian and TV personality Fatima Whitbread MBE was on hand to help Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital launch its GE Optima 450W 1.5T MRI scanner. With her, to officially cut the ribbon of the scanner, was long-term recovering breast cancer patient Karen Lapslie.
The unit is expected to help diagnose breast cancer and provide an effective way of checking how far a cancer has spread through the breast. The GE Optima scanner was chosen by the hospital for its breast imaging capabilities after health officials identified Essex as an area under-resourced in this area.
Radiology manager Dawn Moat said: “We are delighted that this addition to our scanning services will help to benefit patients like Karen. The clarity and detail of the images are excellent and will make diagnosing our patients easier and quicker, while the wider circumference and shorter table will provide a more comfortable experience.”
