First digital autopsy facility opens in Sheffield

His Honour Judge Peter Thornton QC with iGene founder and ceo Matt Chandran at the opening of the UK’s first digital autopsy facility in Sheffield.

The UK is set to become the first nation in the world to have a network of non-invasive digital autopsy facilities, according to GE Healthcare.  CT scanners will help establish the cause of unnatural death using sophisticated 3D visualisation software created by advanced medical visualisation company iGene, part of the Malaysian Infovalley group.

The first £3 million digital autopsy facility is housed at Sheffield’s Medico-Legal Centre and was opened by the Chief Coroner for England and Wales, His Honour Judge Peter Thornton QC, in November 2013.
