First US system with cable-free transducers installed in Dundee

Research assistant Helen McLeod and Institute for Medical Science and Technology director Professor Andreas Melzer.
The University of Dundee Institute for Medical Science and Technology is the first site in the UK to install an Acuson Freestyle from Siemens Healthcare. The company says the Freestyle is the first ultrasound system that has wireless, cable free transducers providing infection control benefits.
Located in the multipurpose interventional suite alongside a Biograph mCT PET/CT and a Magnetom Skyra MR from Siemens Healthcare, the system is being used for a mixture of research and clinical examinations.
“The Acuson Freestyle is ahead of any other ultrasound technology on the market and the first system to be available with wireless transducers,” said Professor Andreas Melzer, director of the university’s Institute for Medical Science and Technology, supported by the Northern Research Partnership. “Professor Graeme Houston at NHS Tayside Radiology and my team have found it easy to use and the interface design is advanced, yet user friendly. We are delighted to be able to conduct a wide range of research projects which will inevitably lead to enhanced clinical practice.”
