Fujifilm presents AI advances and celebrates PACS anniversary
This year at ECR in Vienna, Fujifilm Medical Systems Europe celebrated the 20-year anniversary of Synapse PACS and presented REiLI, a work-in-progress global medical imaging and informatics AI initiative.
There are now 5,000 Synapse PACS systems installed in healthcare facilities around the world, which Fujifilm says is the largest market share for PACS worldwide. “In 1983 we launched Fuji Computed Radiography, becoming the first company in the world to offer a digital x-ray diagnostic imaging system,” the company states. “Medical professionals quickly learned the benefits of digital diagnostic images, including ease of storage and processing.”
Recognising this trend, Fujifilm contributed to the evolution of connectivity in and between medical facilities using emerging internet and web technologies instead of private networks.
More recently, Synapse 3D has won the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2018 in the product design programme and the Synapse Enterprise Imaging Solutions portfolio continues to grow, incorporating the fifth generation Synapse 5, VNA, 3D, CWM workflow manager and Mobility.
Under the REiLI brand, Fujifilm is developing AI technologies that support diagnostic imaging workflow. Among the applications in development are region recognition to accurately recognise and consistently extract organ regions regardless of deviations in shape, presence or absence of disease; computer-aided detection to reduce the time of image interpretation and support clinical decision-making; workflow support using AI technology for optimal study prioritisation, alert communications of AI findings and report population automation.
