Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust is the first in the UK to install the Senographe Pristina mammography system from GE Healthcare.  The system was purchased for a symptomatic service for the area and is located at a satellite unit at Grindon Lane Primary Care Centre.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital breast screening unit programme manager Janet Cumiskey said: “The mammographers using the new machine are very enthusiastic about it and particularly like the ergonomic features and improved patient access.  The whole machine looks and feels less intimidating and the design allows mammographers to concentrate on the patient rather than worrying about the equipment.  Being able to offset the tube when positioning the patient reduces the need for the bending and stretching which causes so many problems for mammographers.”
