The podiatry and MSKCAT departments at Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust have purchased two Esaote MyLab Alpha portable ultrasound systems to take out into the community. This is part of a plan to make the patient assessment and treatment process shorter and to reduce costs.
Extended scope practitioner and podiatrist Lawrence Bevan said: “Since we have had the MyLab Alpha our workload reference parameters for imaging have fallen dramatically. We have been taking imaging to three community sites Dilke, Lydney and St Pauls, and are hoping to increase this to eight sites by the end of the year. This saves patients time and money in travel to hospital sites and enables the time from initial consultation to treatment to be reduced.”
