Guy’s install piXarray

Staff from Guy’s Hospital with their new Bioptices piXarray digital specimen radiography system.

Theatres at Guy’s Hospital, London, have purchased a Bioptics piXarray digital specimen radiography system.  Its versatility allows it to be used in the general operating theatres area as well as clinical procedures in the diagnostic section of the Day Surgery Centre several floors above.

Situated in theatres, it will be used for the identification of sufficient margin in lumpectomy procedures.

Lead breast surgeon, Mr Hisham Hamed commented, “We have been impressed with the speed and accuracy of image acquisition.  This was evident during the trial period as was the mobility of the Bioptics.   In addition, our theatre staff is able to operate the system perfectly well without prior specialist knowledge”.

Mr Hamed added, “The Bioptics is easy to use and very quickly and accurately produces imaged information for me, during operative procedures.  This is very helpful, as it reduces the time a patient remains under anaesthetic”.

Service manager Nicola Wise, explained “We considered other systems and chose the Bioptics as it was small, compact, portable and easy to use, all features that we were looking for and use everyday.”

Said Trevor Mitchell, of DAAX Limited who supplies the system “We were delighted to install a Bioptics system at Guy’s Hospital one of the leading London Foundation Trust hospitals and certainly represents a first for us”.
