Guy’s Hospital, London, is now using a Hitachi Ascendus ultrasound system. The hospital chose it for its range of imaging modalities, including real-time virtual sonography (RVS), real-time tissue elastography (HI-RTE) and contrast.
RVS will be specifically utilised at the hospital for second look ultrasound examinations following MRI for the investigation of multifocal disease. The technology allows display of the real-time ultrasound image simultaneously with CT or MR for direct comparison of lesions and precision monitoring. In addition, HI-RTE technology will be used as part of a research and development project looking at the elastography features of malignant and benign lesions. Plans are also in place to use contrast imaging to aid sentinel node identification and biopsy pre-operatively.
