Ipswich switches and saves money on SPECT

Kneeling in front are nuclear medicine technologists Tanya Stannard and Hollie Hadwen. Behind are chief technologist Celia Steward, consultant radiologist Dr James Hathorn, consultant imaging physicist Alan Aldous and Imaging Equipment Limited’s nuclear medicine sales consultant Ben Clarke.
Imaging Equipment Limited has installed a Technogas Plus, from Cyclomedia, at Ipswich Hospital’s nuclear medicine department. IEL reports that it is the latest in a growing list of UK departments making the switch to Technegas for SPECT lung imaging due to the increase of 3D SPECT imaging for pulmonary embolism.
Consultant radiologist Dr James Hathorn said: “Making the switch from krypton to Technegas has saved the department a substantial sum of money and increased the availability of lung ventilation studies, whilst maintaining the diagnostic power of our V/Q SPECT service.”
