The prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster, London, will this year host Kanal’s 5th European MRMD/MRSO course. Organised by MRI Safety Matters, this internationally respected course offers MRI professionals from around the world a unique opportunity to master MRI safety under the guidance of Dr Emanuel Kanal, one of the most highly regarded MRI educators globally. Held from June 16-18, this training addresses the most urgent challenges and concerns in MRI safety.
With up to 20 hours of detailed lectures, participants will gain vital MRI safety expertise and discover methods to evaluate and improve practices to enhance patient care.
Unique to Kanal’s European MRI safety course, attendees will also benefit from the addition of two post-course virtual teaching sessions. These are intended to reinforce the course material and to consolidate the learning by offering additional time for questions after attendees have returned to their workplace and had a chance to reflect on the topics discussed.
Dr Emanuel Kanal shared his thoughts on the event: “This course is about empowering MRI professionals with the tools they need to enhance safety and make confident decisions. It’s a unique opportunity to learn, collaborate, and bring meaningful change to our field.”
Barbara Nugent, founder of MRI Safety Matters, added: “This course is a landmark in the MRI calendar, and we’re delighted to host it in such an amazing venue. The insights, tools, and connections made here will have a lasting impact on participants and their practice.”
The course content includes:
- Static magnetic fields: understand the significance and the clinical implications of translational, torque and Lorentz forces and how to manage them. Explore the roles of the static field and the spatial field gradient in generating the force product.
- RF magnetic fields: learn how RF energy interacts with the human body and what diffuse and focal power deposition means and the strategies that can be used to prevent patient overheating and burns.
- Time-varying gradient safety: delve into the effects of neuromuscular stimulation, auditory safety thresholds, and how these relate to patient care.
- Cryogen safety considerations: appreciate the importance of the safe management of supercooled liquid helium and the risks associated with quenching.
- Clinical decision making and the Kanal Method: discover Kanal’s systematic approach to assessing the safety of patients with implants, devices, or foreign bodies. Find out how Kanal’s MR Safety Implant Risk Assessment app can be used.
- Interactive open Q&A session: participate in discussions on challenging cases and learn directly from Dr Kanal’s expertise.

The course fee includes lunches, refreshments, an environmentally friendly delegate bag, and a specially designed notebook with a stylus pen. The event also features an exhibition showcasing the latest advancements in MRI safety, giving attendees a chance to interact with leading industry vendors.
Here’s what attendees from the June 2024 course shared, showcasing the practical benefits and value that make this event a must for MRI professionals:
- “The depth of knowledge shared by Dr Kanal and the speakers was truly exceptional. I left feeling more confident and equipped to handle complex MRI safety challenges in my daily practice.”
- “What I appreciated most was the practical approach—real-world scenarios, actionable insights, and tools I can immediately implement. It’s not just theory; it’s directly applicable to my work.”
- “The opportunity to network with other professionals from around the world was invaluable. Learning how different institutions handle MRI safety has inspired me to explore improvements in my own department.”
The course fee for Kanal’s 5th European MRMD/MRSO Course is £750 + VAT for funded attendees and to support those self-funding there is a special subsidised rate of £650 + VAT. This includes up to 20 hours of detailed lectures, a CPD certificate, lunches, refreshments, and access to the vendors’ exhibition.
Spaces are limited, and this event is expected to sell out quickly. Don’t miss your chance to join an international network of MRI professionals dedicated to advancing safety standards.
