Lothian access improved

Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary associate specialist in rheumatology Dr Lucy Maggiori and leader of Scottish Rheumatology Ultrasound Group and faculty lead of the UK Sonography Synovitis Course Dr Neil McKay.
West Lothian Hospitals has extended its early rheumatoid arthritis service with three ultrasound systems, so that patients will not need to travel into central Edinburgh to access rapid synovitis assessments.
NHS Lothian principal investigator for multiple new antirheumatic disease treatment studies Dr Neil McKay leads the Scottish Rheumatology Ultrasound Group and is the faculty lead of the UK Sonography Synovitis Course. He said: “We are pleased with the purchase of the three Esaote MyLab Alpha ultrasound systems. This will improve the access to rheumatology ultrasound services in Lothian. The portability and excellent image allows bedside ward assessment and satellite side clinic use. Our patients’ treatment will be improved and optimised.”
