Mammomat Revelation approved for NHS Breast Screening

In the most recent Breast Screening Programme England report, uptake of breast screening for women between the ages of 50 and 70 was shown to have fallen to the lowest rate in a decade, revealing an attendance rate of 71.1 per cent. While reasons for non-attendance vary, fear of discomfort or a previous experience of pain during screening are among those most frequently listed. Siemens Healthineers believes that patient experience is a key factor in boosting attendance to breast screening.

To address the 45 per cent of women stating discomfort as a reason for non-attendance, Siemens Healthineers says recent developments in its mammography systems target the current challenges of the national screening programme. The Mammomat Revelation, approved for use by the NHS Breast Screening Programme, is designed to address these challenges with moodlighting, Inspect specimen solution, personalised compression including SoftComp Paddles to reduce discomfort during screening and Prime technology enabling dose reduction of up to 30 per cent.

GB&I business manager for x-ray products Joanne Barry said: “We are delighted the Mammomat Revelation has been approved for use in the NHS Breast Screening Programme. It puts the patient at the forefront in its design, while providing radiologists with higher diagnostic accuracy.”
