University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust’s charity has purchased a Philips KittenScanner to help alleviate the fear of scanning for children and make the experience more interactive.

The model scanner has the potential to reduce the number of children needing general anaesthesia by engaging them in play.

Principal radiographer Alice Turner said: “We are very grateful to the UHNS charity and to the people who kindly donated to this.  This is the sort of purchase that is hard to quantify in terms of benefits, but having seen the potential for improving the experience for our younger patients, the charity was very enthusiastic and keen to invest in this opportunity.”
