More measurements advance DXA research

Pictured during a follow-up visit to the radiology department of Manchester Royal Infirmary following the installation of a Hologic Discovery A DXA system with Apex 4 software, are Vertec product specialist Bill Reid, bone densitometry radiographers Imelda Hodgkinson and Joanne Anderson, clinical lead radiographer Jeanette Ryder and consultant and honorary professor of diagnostic radiology Professor Judith Adams.

The University of Manchester and the infirmary have been Vertec customers for over 20 years and this is the third Hologic DXA scanner to be installed over that period.

Professor Adams said: “We are very pleased to have this new Hologic scanner, which has a C-arm and the latest analysis software.  This will extend our clinical and research capabilities in vertebral fracture diagnosis, bone density assessment and body composition, since there are new measurements available in the latter such as andoid/gynoid ratio and visceral adipose tissue.”
