Adaptix fosters innovation and female leadership

As an up-and-coming name in the medical imaging world, Adaptix’s new x-ray system delivers 3D images in less than 30 seconds at a cost comparable to 2D x-ray. The company says it is making great strides celebrating the talents of women in the industry, with almost half of its senior management roles taken by women. Sarah Small and Dr Siân Phillips hold two of the most senior roles: chief executive officer and chief medical officer.
With a background as finance director for AIM-listed companies, Small joined Adaptix in 2017 heading up the finance function, before being promoted to finance director and joining the board of directors, ultimately accepting the role of CEO in 2023. A chartered accountant by training, she has a reputation for developing cultures where collaboration and a commitment to people development and continuous improvement drive innovation and growth. She said: “I am proud to be CEO of a company that champions women in STEM industries and to have played a part in developing the careers of several strong women, both at Adaptix and in my previous roles.”
Dr Phillips is a consultant radiologist in the Welsh NHS, champion of female-founded businesses and an angel investor with Women Angels of Wales syndicate, which backs female entrepreneurs. She has held several senior leadership roles. Having previously sat on the medical advisory board at GE HealthCare and worked as an advisor to the Welsh Government, she joined Adaptix as a medical advisor in 2017, becoming chief medical officer in 2021. She said: “The opportunity to develop new medical technologies is an exciting field that requires a wide array of skills – from scientific engineering understanding and clinical guidance to commercial acumen and understanding of a complex and varied marketplace. The MedTech industry offers a wide variety of rewarding career opportunities for women – not least among innovative, early-stage businesses, such as Adaptix, which support talented women in developing their skills and careers.”
