Esaote celebrates collaborator Matthew Benbow’s impact ahead of his NHS retirement

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust CT and MRI service manager Matthew Benbow is retiring from the NHS after more than 25 years of service. Esaote country business manager James Davies said he is someone who has made a significant contribution to MRI services in the UK. “He has always looked beyond the status quo, continually searching for new ways to improve MRI services for patients and staff.
“One of his most significant achievements was championing the introduction of the Esaote O-scan Smart MRI system into the radiology department at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. By introducing a dedicated extremity MRI scanner, the trust was able to transfer around 3,000 MSK patients each year away from its conventional MRI scanners, releasing valuable capacity for more complex examinations. Even more impressively, the service was delivered with a smaller staffing requirement, creating a highly cost-effective solution that increased MRI capacity while improving patient access.”
Innovation has always been at the heart of Benbow’s work, said Davies: “His willingness to challenge us, share ideas and evaluate new technologies has directly influenced the evolution of our systems, from new imaging protocols through to the latest e-Spades integrated AI platform, which enhances image quality while reducing scan times to help departments improve productivity and increase diagnostic capacity.”
