Symposium Mammographicum’s new president takes office

Samantha Smith has been elected president of Symposium Mammographicum for a three-year term. She succeeds Dr Michael Michell, who had held the role since 2007 and will remain a trustee, providing support to the board of the breast cancer charity. Smith, who will provide strategic direction and act as a primary spokesperson, has been a trustee since 2023 and prior to that ran workshops for Symposium Mammographicum. She is a consultant radiographer and co-director for Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry Breast Screening Service and has more than 30 years’ experience in breast imaging. She said: “Mike has skilfully and charismatically been the figurehead of the charity for many years. The bar has been set very high and with it the level of responsibility. I am very excited to represent my profession and the breast imaging community and it is a privilege to be a key part in taking ‘Symp Mamm’ forward, building on the core ethos and values, upon which the organisation was established in 1979.”
