St Mary’s Hospital on the Isle of Wight has had a 1.5T Achieva MRI scanner converted to an Ingenia dStream system by Philips UKI.  The SmartPath conversion programme brings the benefits of digital broadband architecture without the cost and disruption of installing a new system.  In addition, Philips installed an ambient lighting solution that is designed to reduce patient anxiety with the use of a selectable lighting range through which patients can personalise their surroundings.

MRI superintendent radiographer Alistair Day said: “We are a small general hospital with unique demands due to our island location.  The main factors which influenced our decision to convert our existing MRI included the quality and versatility of the existing system and the lower cost of conversion compared to the purchase of a new scanner.”
