NOS local chair opens enhanced DXA service at York

Nuffield Health York Hospital’s enhanced DXA service has been officially opened by Enid Webster, chair of the York Support Group of the National Osteoporosis Society.  Pictured are bone densitometry lead Chris Tomlinson (seated), with senior radiographers Chris Burt, Claudia Polgar and Margaret Hodgson, Vertec product sales specialist Bill Reid, Enid Webster, National Osteoporosis Society development manager for northern England Jill Beaumont and hospital diagnostic imaging manager Barbara Bargh.

The hospital provides a bone densitometry service for York and surrounding areas and is involved in a new fracture liaison service in primary care where GPs identify patients aged over 50 who have had fragility fractures and refer them for DXA scans.

The service is now equipped with a Hologic Horizon W system, supplied by Vertec Scientific.  This is the latest development from Hologic and the company says it is a multi-faceted system to cover a comprehensive range of applications.
