Patients at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin are benefitting from a more comfortable imaging experience following the addition of a Magnetom Skyra 3.0T MR system from Siemens Healthcare.  Operating alongside a Magnetom Symphony Tim 1.5T, the 3.0T scanner images up to 18 patients a day and features a 70cm open bore.  Lower noise levels in comparison to other systems are said to be making patients more at ease during imaging.

“We use the system for a range of procedures, including neurology and breast MR,” said MRI clinical specialist radiographer Andrea Cradock. “We have also been able to add new services for patients including diffusion tensor imaging and MR spectroscopy procedures, which is helping to study metabolic changes in brain tumours, strokes and Alzheimer’s disease.  The wider bore and noise reduction have been the defining features for patients.”
