Paul Strickland Scanner Centre halves PETCT scan times

Paul Strickland Scanner Centre has halved PETCT scan times using a new Biograph Vision 600 from Siemens Healthineers, achieving with one system what previously required two. The upgrade by the medical charity, which was made possible through donations, will primarily support increasing referrals for oncology patients and in the future could encompass neurology, such as Alzheimer’s services and research. The centre will also use the system to engage in more clinical trials and research projects, including collaborations for prostate cancer and lymphoma research.
This investment in technology underscores the centre’s commitment to enhancing diagnostic capabilities and expanding on PETCT research efforts to improve early detection and treatment of diseases.
Equipped with intelligent imaging capabilities, the Biograph Vision 600 increases throughput while delivering consistent results, enabling confident decision making at a low dose. With scan times halved, patients have remarked on the speed, which is particularly beneficial for those who are claustrophobic or have difficulty remaining still. The centre has also significantly remodelled its facilities to streamline the pre-scanning process, enhancing comfort and efficiency.
“The introduction of the Biograph Vision 600 has revolutionised our imaging services,” said PETCT superintendent radiographer Suzannah Patel. “Thanks to the generous contributions from our donors, we have high quality equipment that delivers clearer, sharper images while reducing scan times. This significantly benefits our patients, ensuring we can keep pace with increasing referrals while maintaining the high standards of care we hold ourselves to.”
Siemens Healthineers Great Britain and Ireland business manager for molecular imaging Lawrence Foulsham added: “We are proud to support Paul Strickland Scanner Centre in its mission to deliver high quality imaging services and advance research aimed at early detection of cancer and other diseases.”
