Physicists attend Irish innovation workshop

Imaging Equipment Limited has again sponsored a travel bursary at The Irish Association of Physicists in Medicine (IAPM). Founded in 2010, the IAPM now has more than 170 members, many of whom attended the 7th Annual Scientific Conference in Waterford in April. Around 130 physicists met for a workshop in innovation and enterprise.
For the bursary competition the candidates delivered a three minute oral presentation describing how their work has contributed to clinical improvements to services offered through medical physics. The quality of the oral and poster presentations made for a very difficult decision for the judges and the bursary was awarded jointly to Niall Colgan, for his investigation of glucoCEST as a novel clinical MR biomarker of glucose metabolism and Shauna Nic a Bhaird for her work in using 3D technology to create bolus material for radiotherapy.
