Practice Plus Group, formerly Care UK Healthcare, has announced changes to its senior radiology team, with top roles going to internal candidates.
Dr Katerina Tsokova is now the group’s clinical director in radiology and Fiona Nelson has been appointed diagnostic imaging lead.
Dr Tsokova and Nelson will be responsible for the development and oversight of Practice Plus Group’s diagnostic imaging services from its six hospitals, three surgical centres and two diagnostics services across the country.
Dr Tsokova qualified in 1995 with a Master of Medicine from Plovdiv Medical University, Bulgaria, followed by a qualification in specialist radiology from the same institution in 2002.
Between 1996 and 2007 she held radiology posts at two hospitals in Bulgaria before coming to the UK. She is a member of the European Association of Radiology and the Bulgarian Association of Radiology. Dr Tsokova trained in general radiology and has a special interest in urgent medicine, gynaecology and musculoskeletal pathology.
Fiona Nelson has been appointed diagnostic imaging lead. She has been radiology manager at Practice Plus Group Hospital Shepton Mallet (formerly Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre) since 2015. She was part of the team when the hospital achieved ISO 9001 accreditation and it was the first surgical service to achieve ‘outstanding’ in all five key lines of inquiry from the Care Quality Commission. In addition she has restructured the hospital’s radiology service to achieve performance and financial efficiencies, and has overseen the introduction of new equipment representing an investment of over £1 million.
Nelson qualified as a radiographer in 1988, taking up her first clinical post at York General Hospital in that year. She has pursued continuing professional development throughout her career.

Medical director secondary care and responsible officer Dr Robert Loveland commented: “We are delighted to have found two such strong candidates for these senior roles from among our own cohort of radiology colleagues. I am confident that both Katerina and Fiona will be instrumental in helping us to develop our diagnostic imaging services still further.”
This announcement follows that of a group-wide investment in x-ray upgrades and ultrasound equipment of more than £400,000 across Practice Plus Group hospitals in Plymouth, Shepton Mallet, Bristol and Devizes, and the groups diagnostic centres in Buckinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
