Professor Dekker receives the Sir Godfrey Hounsfield award

Professor Andre Dekker, professor of clinical data science at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, received the Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Memorial Award, following delivery of a lecture entitled ‘Big data for better cancer care’ at the BIR annual congress.  He was presented with the award by BIR president Dr Jane Phillips-Hughes.

The talk focused on the development of a data sharing and distributed learning infra-structure that does not require data to leave the hospital.  The concept aims to reduce many of the barriers that arise in the sharing of health data.  This approach works in more than 25 cancer centres worldwide.

Professor Dekker said: “In our data science research we build on Sir Godfrey’s groundbreaking work and combine imaging and AI for better cancer care.  It is therefore a true honour to receive this award.”
