Relax & View

Magstripe Limited is celebrating 25 years of developing and manufacturing MRI-compatible video systems, supporting patient relaxation and improving workflow efficiency across MRI services in the UK and worldwide. Patient distraction during scans is proven to reduce the need for anxiolytic medication, minimise movement, and improve throughput – benefits that underpin Magstripe’s long-running Relax & View video based product lines.

From the MR6000 to global adoption

Magstripe’s first system, launched in 2000 and distributed by Wardray Premise, featured an 18-inch fibre optic display mounted on axis with the scanner. Early adopters included Great Ormond Street Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital, The Royal Marsden Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital, with GE HealthCare installing a system in Besançon, France. Strong feedback – including testimonials from Alder Hey – helped drive growth.

The system evolved to a 20-inch display in 2004, reaching sites across South Korea, Australia, Spain and Brazil, where one hospital installed six units.

Evolving technology

A major update arrived in 2011 with the 24-inch LED-backlit MR6300, available in standard and fMRI versions. North American uptake followed through distributor CSP Medical, and in 2013 The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia equipped all eight scanners with the system. In 2015, Magstripe introduced the MR6300D, adding HDMI compatibility for digital media players, tablets and laptops.

Relax & View systems are now used across USA, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan and France, as well as in the UK.

Recent developments

Magstripe’s latest enhancements include a full HD operator preview monitor and sound system supporting up to four video sources, alongside complementary safety products: a fibre optic patient safety camera with zoom capability and the Safe Air oxygen monitor, which provides real-time O₂ readings and alarm functionality including vent control.

Magstripe products are distributed by Wardray Premise.
