Royal Cornwall Hospital hosts ultrasound study day

Some of the delegates attending the Cornish ultrasound study day.
A study day organised by the Royal Cornwall Hospital and held at the St Austell Conference Centre focused on the extended scope of ultrasound practice. The topics discussed, choice of speakers and venue were all well received by the 30 attendees, who also enjoyed a Cornish cream tea.
Delegates participated in interactive discussions surrounding testicular and neck scanning, with debate concerning training and especially the future role of sonographers in thyroid biopsies. Speakers were open to questions, which produced debates on liver assessment with a hepatology nurse specialist, endo-leak assessment, post stent placement and the use of renal contrast. The extended scope of practice theme touched on specialist paediatric scanning, which, given the timeframe, produced a positive feedback.
Paul Chiplen represented Canon Medical Systems’ CO2 offsetting partner, and spoke about some of the CO2 offsetting projects that Canon is involved with in the third world, which include the renovation of water bore holes that had fallen into disrepair, along with the manufacture of fuel-efficient wood burning stoves in Kenya.
