Sarah Allen awarded Norman Veall medal at BNMS

Sarah Allen receives the Norman Veall medal for 2017 from BNMS secretary Dr Richard Graham (left) and BNMS president Professor Sobhan Vinjamuri.

At the BNMS annual awards dinner Sarah Allen was presented with the Norman Veall medal for 2017.  Sarah Allen works as a principal physicist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London where Norman Veall developed the Cr-51 EDTA investigation for determining renal function.  She has been head of the nuclear medicine physics team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ for more than 15 years and has trained and developed numerous clinical scientists, many of whom have remained within the team.  As a highly-regarded authority on nuclear medicine physics, radiation protection and regulation she has made a huge impact on service provision at national and international level.

The 2017 award is of particular significance, not only in recognition for Allen’s outstanding contribution to the science of nuclear medicine, but because she is the first woman to receive the BNMS Norman Veall medal.
