Autocontouring for heart sparing lung radiotherapy
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the UK and radiotherapy is an important treatment option, particularly for patients who are not well enough to have surgery. The importance of dose to the heart from lung radiotherapy is increasingly recognised. Recent research from our group at Manchester shows that giving radiation to the top of the heart when treating lung cancer can cause early death.
