MRI the Inside Story

Eden Learning’s revamped course ‘MRI the inside story – from picture to proton and beyond’ had its first run in London in September. Previously a four-day course, the new compact format offered attendees a more complete educational experience over a shorter period.

Morning sessions were delivered by Dr Donald McRobbie from the University of Adelaide, co-author of the textbook MRI from Picture to Proton, which was given to each attendee. The sessions covered the essential aspects of MR physics and technology – basic physics, image formation, k-space, artefact avoidance, spin and gradient echo sequences, water and fat in MRI, parallel imaging, MR angiography and optimisation. A new feature was the image optimisation workshop, which involved attendees solving clinical scanning scenarios using a novel online SNR and resolution calculator.

Afternoon sessions were presented by Eden Learning’s Denise Newsom with guest lecturers Georgina Hopkinson from The Royal Mardsen), Dr Karen Partington from Oxford and Christine Heales from Plymouth. They focused on clinical applications including diffusion-weighted imaging, 1.5T versus 3.0T, pelvis, MSK upper limb and neuro anatomy, technique and reporting.

Written feedback from attendees gave top marks for all talks. “The format worked really well and I am looking forward to applying my new knowledge in the workplace,” commented one delegate.
