Southend offers quicker reassurance thanks to charity support

Senior physiotherapist David Newton, OPD rehab service manager Beverly Loughborough, consultant physiotherapist Dr Hubert Van Griensven, Esaote UK applications specialist Kim Blinch and consultant physiotherapist Billy Fashanu.

A charity has raised more than £1.9 million to purchase equipment for Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  An Esaote portable ultrasound scanner for the physiotherapy department was funded through Advanced Surgical Equipment Trust, a charity founded by John Gibson, who said: “We chose Esaote because of the service and support we received in the past.  It is also the best equipment on the market.  We have had good service and good training, which benefits the patients in the long term.”

The department chose Esaote’s MyLab One ultrasound system and consultant physiotherapist Billy Fashanu explained: “The objective is to provide patients with quicker reassurance and intervention, in order to speed up recovery time.  This will provide a one-stop-clinic for selected group of patients with shoulder pain to guide physiotherapy and injection treatments rather than for diagnosis.  Using the MyLab One will allow us to do a lot more in the early part of the pathway so that the patients could be triaged to the right musculoskeletal service.  It will be a useful tool for engaging patients in their own care.”
