Spire South Bank Hospital, Worcester, has installed an Epiq 5 ultrasound scanner from Philips UKI.  The system comes with Philips’ clinical software for radiology, including fully integrated multi-modality fusion.

Consultant radiologist Dr Umesh Udeshi said: “We chose the Epiq scanner as we thought it was an ergonomic system of the highest quality, widely capable of fulfilling our needs.  We find it easy to use and intuitive, providing excellent image quality, and it is very versatile for a wide range of applications and special interests.

“In particular we wanted to be able to use the MR fusion capabilities for fusion biopsies of the prostate.  We are using MRI to detect prostate cancers and confirm the histology using MR/transrectal ultrasound-guided fusion biopsies.  This has increased our first-time positive rates considerably.”
