Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) radiology department has installed a Hologic Horizon DXA system, supplied by Vertec, into a purpose-built room at St Catherine’s.  The old scanner was situated at Elm House on the trust’s Clatterbridge site, but the new premises provide a much improved environment and experience for patients and staff.

Baird said: “Our new Horizon, which has an increased table weight limit and the ability to perform histogramming to aid vertebral identification, means that WUTH can offer a bone densitometry service to a wider range of patients of the Wirral and Cheshire area who would otherwise have missed out on potentially life changing diagnosis and treatment.  Our previous scanner gave us many years of reliable service and I’m sure that this new machine will do exactly the same.”
