St George’s training suite mirrors the workplace

St George’s principal Jenny Higham, head of the department of radiography and associate dean for student experience Marcus Jackson and SCoR director of professional policy Charlotte Beardmore.
The official opening of a new radiography suite at St George’s, University of London, took place in December. Among the therapeutic simulation facilities is a purpose-built immersive virtual environment for radiotherapy education. This provides a treatment room allowing students to familiarise themselves with the equipment they would use in practice.
The department also has a state-of-the-art treatment planning suite of computers equipped with software used in the clinical setting. It enables students to generate individual ‘patient’ plans for radiation treatment as well as match imaging taken during treatment.
Principal Jenny Higham said: “The move of the diagnostic and therapeutic radiography courses to St George’s has been brilliant for the university. This wonderful facility is fitting to allow students to reach their full potential and go on to thrive in their future careers as radiographers.”
