Tameside and Glossop adds MRI capacity

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has secured £2.4 million from NHS England for an additional MRI system. This installation is part of the wider work of the Greater Manchester Imaging Network, of which the trust is a member.
The system from Canon Medical will provide a robust long-term solution for the trust, helping to ensure capacity keeps up with demand to meet the future needs of the service. It will support all cancer services, including head and neck, in an effort to reduce waiting times for scans from 16 days to seven.
Trust chief executive Karen James, OBE, said: “The MRI scanner adds resilience to our radiology department and ensures we can meet the current and future needs of our population.”
Greater Manchester Imaging Network chief officer Chris Sleight added: “Being able to support Tameside and Glossop trust with securing the funding for the MRI scanner was a priority aim of the network. I am delighted the network has been able to help finally achieve the trust’s long-standing ambition for locally dedicated MRI capacity to meet the needs of the patients of Tameside and Glossop.
“I am also delighted for the radiology staff who deserve to work with state-of-the-art technology. Having this successful outcome is an excellent example of the value of the network in supporting our hospitals to provide a high level of service to patients.”
