UCH collaborates with leading clinicians

Pictured are Colchester General Hospital surgical fellow Dr Omer Jalil, UCH research technologist Lynn Millner, UCH consultant radiologist Dr Francesco Fraioli, chair and academic head of INM Professor Ashley Groves, Colchester General Hospital consultant colorectal surgeon Mr Tan Arulampalam, UCH deputy chief technologist Rayjanah Allie and UCH consultant radiologist Dr Simon Wan.
The extensive research portfolio of the Institute of Nuclear Medicine (INM) at University College London and University College Hospital is supported by the department’s clinical expertise in medical imaging and resources such as two PETCT systems and a PETMR scanner, a DEXA scanner, five gamma cameras including three SPECT/CT systems and an on-site radio-pharmacy. The fusion of clinical, academia and r&d has led to advances in projects such as tumour angiogenesis for lung, colorectal, oesophageal, renal, head and neck and breast carcinomas led by chair and academic head of the institute Professor Ashley Groves.
INM is collaborating with a number of leading cancer clinicians and surgeons for the project including consultant colorectal surgeon Mr Tan Arulampalam based at Colchester General Hospital, and so more than 500 patients have been recruited.
Professor Ashley Groves said: “Results so far are very promising, however we are very keen to collaborate with our medical imaging colleagues and leading surgical clinicians to improve the statistical strength of our data, proving how clinically significant the research is and demonstrating the positive impact that it will have on patient care.”
Professor Groves will be speaking at the Fusion PETCT course run jointly by INM and Diagnostic Imaging Seminars later this year.
