Wigan breast screening service updates mammography

South Lancashire Breast Screening Service’s senior diagnostic radiographer Joleen Kirsty Eden with Philips Healthcare commercial manager, women’s health, Neil Emery, advanced radiographic practitioner Karen Rigby, assistant practitioner Jeanne Smedley and Philips mammography applications specialist Runya Mukanganwa.

South Lancashire Breast Screening Service, based at The Thomas Linacre Centre in Wigan, has replaced three mammography units with Philips MicroDose L30 mammography systems installed on mobile screening trailers.

Superintendent radiographer Karen Hindley said: “We primarily chose the Philips equipment because of the low radiation dose and ease of use.  In particular, it can accommodate differing radiographer work patterns, it is simple to relabel images and it allows a quick patient turnaround.”

Hindley added: “We have had good feedback from clients as the curved detector plate seems to make examinations less painful.”
