County Hospital adds MRI scanner to meet future needs

Seated are radiographers Daniel Smith and Tonderai Mudyawabikwa, imaging assistant Jenni-Lee Darby and radiographer Louise Perry. Behind them are radiographer Gill Hall, imaging assistant Emily Burgess, non-executive director Steve Burgin and imaging scheduler Jayne Williams.
County Hospital, part of University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, has celebrated the installation of its second MRI scanner. The addition to the hospital’s MRI department will allow the trust to deliver a uniform service and help reduce patient waiting times at both of its sites. Non-executive director Steve Burgin led an open day in July 2017, which celebrated the important contribution the scanner will make to patients.
Directorate manager for imaging Jonathan Barnett said: “This latest installation of our fourth Siemens 3.0T scanner means that not only is the trust one of the largest MRI providers in the country, we also have the equipment to perform most of our specialist MRI scans with no delineation between the two centres, including cardiac, breast, neurology and vascular imaging.
“This will benefit both inpatients and outpatients across the trust.”
