Athens centre to collect dense breast data with Maria imaging system

Micrima has installed a Maria breast imaging system at the Breast Imaging Center of Athens, supported by Papapostolou Medical. Micrima applications specialist Jennifer Graham was with the team for three days, training and advising staff as they scanned the first patients.

The system will be collecting data for the machine learning processes Micrima is running as part of the functionality improvements to its breast imaging system.

Centre director Dr Spyros Lazarou said at the end of the training: “We know dense breast tissue can be difficult for us to find cancer in, so are happy to be working with Micrima to provide data that will hopefully lead to development of a system that can be used to solve some of the issues. I am very interested to see the different interaction of Micrima’s radio waves with conventional imaging in different types of cancers.”

Micrima will be collecting density data from screening and lesion information from patients attending the symptomatic clinic to further develop the Maria density score and the benign malignant classifier.
